Auluba & Lofberg Ovals

Client: Ku-ring-gai Council
Location: Turramurra
Date Completed: May 2011

Ku-ring-gai Council contracted Statewide Civil to construct one of Sydney’s major infrastructure upgrades. Statewide Civil took on the remediation of three playing fields in and around the Turramurra area.

Statewide Civil embarked on this project not only to further their construction knowledge and experience in various sporting facilities (i.e Baseball fields, cricket pitches, and soccer ovals), the project also required the construction of a bio-filtration system to harvest, filter and store storm water runoff to irrigate Lofberg Oval.

Bio-filtration involves the trapping of storm water runoff, allowing water to permeate through specified growing medium which acts as a sand filter, harvesting and pumping filtered water to a storage tank through a rising main. From here the water is treated through a UV filter to remove any harmful bacteria then delivered through the irrigation system as required. Installation of sand slit drainage to these ovals also allows harvesting of irrigation runoff for re-use through the bio-filtration system.

All three ovals were rewarding to construct, not only for the enjoyment of the community but also to benefit our fragile environment.
